Good things happen at the 19th hole!

McDonald Butler started life almost 10 years ago with a focus and specialism in retail. Since then we’ve broaden our scope to all industries but we’ve never forgotten our roots. Every year since 2011, McDonald Butler has held a sponsored golf tournament where all proceeds go to the Retail Trust. It’s our way of thanking clients and retailers for their support and our clients’ way of improving their swing. Being a mixed bunch of talent it does get a bit competitive on the green, especially with Mike Butler (resident MD), who never gives away a shot – even for a client! What’s more we have a classic car as a prize if you get a hole in one on the 18th (which no-one has won to date!).

It’s always a lot of fun … we’ve got drenched, we’ve got sunburned, we’ve got stuck on the 19th and we’ve lost a lot of balls along the way; but we’ve always managed to raise over £1,000 for the Retail Trust at every tournament. That’s something we’re really proud of.

The Retail Trust is the only charity that looks after all three million people working in retail, plus those retired from the sector and its associated businesses. They provide help and support to people whatever challenges they face. While retail offers unparalleled opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds, it has many people on or near the minimum wage, which currently stands at £6.08 for workers aged 21 and over. When something goes wrong, these people can be very vulnerable. Retail Trust has services in place to make sure that we can be there for those who need the support and assistance.
