In February 2010 after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the McDonald Butler team were at a company training session called, “The Winning Streak”. The big take out was that anything was possible if you put your mind to it. After the session we all started talking about Haiti and what we could do to help. We wanted to do something quickly so after a few glasses of wine, and a bit of an excitable brainstorm, we came up with the idea of an auction with a difference – we would auction off our team instead!
10 days later we staged an auction and charity raffle for the UNICEF Haiti appeal. 100 guests were hosted at The Haymarket Hotel and the result was a staggering £10,000 raised for the Haiti appeal, to top it all we received a special commendation from UNICEF as one of the most innovative and successful fund-raisers, ever! It was a roller-coaster of a project, with all hands on deck, we worked late, started early, laughed a lot (especially coming up with the names of the teams we were auctioning), haggled with numerous hotels, invited just about everybody we knew, and finally, we got UNICEF involved.
UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation for children, working in over 190 countries, doing whatever it takes to make a lasting difference to children’s lives. They’re ready to respond rapidly when emergencies strike, delivering life-saving help for children. UNICEF is also the world’s largest distributor of vaccines, vaccinating a third of the world’s children.
